Affiliated with the University of Toronto. Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre does approximately 700 cardiac cases annually. Experience will be gained in a various procedures such as "off-pump" surgery, invasive monitoring, hypothermia and circulatory arrest. Sunnybrook has recently instituted a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implant (TAVI) and Mitraclip program and experience in this procedure is possible.
TOE experience can be gained during dedicated time. The fellow is expected to be involved in a clinical research project and will be encouraged to attend the yearly Research Design Seminar Series run by the Anesthesia Research Committee. Fellows will attend cardiac anaesthesia rounds and TOE rounds which occur monthly.
