==========================

Westmead Hospital performs about 500 cardiopulmonary bypass cases per year. Up to two cardiothoracic theatres run per day; there is also substantial cardiac cath lab activity. The job involves experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia but concentrates on TOE for the first half of the year. The first four weeks are spent in the echo lab with sonographers and cardiologists learning the basics of TOE, TTE and reporting. You then spend about two days a week in a cardiac theatre plus one day in echo or the cath lab.

Opportunity for research plus study leave for any relevant exams/courses relating to cardiac anaesthesia.

Specific interests e.g. management, education or research can be incorporated into the fellowship - include your area of interest in your application.

Working hours: 40h/5d week, one "clinical support" (administration) day per fortnight. Evening overtime once or twice a fortnight, one weekend long-day shift per month. Seven consecutive night shifts followed by 5 days off, four times a year. No on-call. There is a mix of fellowship-specific and "service" work.
