Education & Critical Care at Royal Marsden

6 month post (extendable to 12 months)

The trainee will have one to two days per week dedicated to time spent in staff training, education, and medical simulation projects, depending on the project needs, with the remainder of the time allocated to clinical commitment to Chelsea theatres and on-call in Sutton or Chelsea to make a total of less than 48 hours per week.

The post-holder will be encouraged to pursue a Higher Degree in Medical Education, should they so wish. Financial support will be available.

Educational opportunities:

Opportunity to undertake Diploma in Medical Education (partially funded)

Opportunity to attend a simulation training course, such as SPRinT (Simulated interPRofessional Team Training) Advanced Facilitators team training course (partially funded)

To develop a sound understanding of the development and delivery of clinical education programmes, incorporating the use of educational technologies

To function independently as a medical simulation and education instructor, including as a senior facilitator in the field of Crisis Resource Management

Opportunity to organise and teach the CCU FY2 educational programme

Opportunity to be involved in ICM ST3/4 educational programme

Commitment to teaching on Critical Care Unit and theatres in-situ simulation courses and training

Opportunity to teach and run courses including Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care course and Critical Care Transfer course

Research/Audit:

To be involved in the End of Life care working group, including research projects related to this

To be involved in data collection, abstract writing, presentation and publication

The appointee will take part in regular Department, Academic and Audit meetings

Anaesthesia & Management:

Opportunity to gain clinical experience in the anaesthetic/intensive care management of major complex cases, and a broad range of cancer-related therapies, surgical and medical

Opportunity to have hands-on experience of a large number of TIVA anaesthesia cases

Attend other appropriate board and hospital meetings

Opportunity to help organise The Royal Marsden management course
