Neuroanaesthesia at Chicago, University of Illinois

The caseload at the University of Illinois offers the neuroanesthesia fellow the opportunity to manage clinical cases, under the guidance of attending anesthesiologists with specialty training in this area. Monitoring expertise is developed in intraoperative monitoring techniques which include placement of arterial lines, central venous lines, pulmonary artery catheters, evoked potentials, and electroencephalography.

The neuroanesthesia fellow is expected to be involved in clinical or laboratory research.

The neuroanesthesia fellow is involved in daily clinical teaching of the basics of neuroanesthesia during residents’ operating room experiences. He/she is also responsible for organizing weekly educational conferences with the residents, discussing the basics of neuroanesthesia, and evaluating current literature.
