Based at Toronto Western Hospital.

Fellows gain experience in anesthetic management of complex vascular malformations in the brain, tumors, pituitary, epilepsy surgery and deep brain stimulation. Interventional neuroradiology and major spine surgery form an integral part of the clinical learning.

Research opportunities include epilepsy surgery, blood loss in major spine surgery, awake craniotomies and evoked potential monitoring. Fellows can also present findings at local, national and international meetings.

Fellows will participate in general emergency on-call duties at a frequency of approximately 4-5 calls per month.

Regular education sessions will be arranged within the department with staff and residents. Neuroanesthesia trouble rounds are held twice a month in the morning to discuss challenging cases and complications. Fellows are also encouraged to attend neurosciences rounds, neurosurgical morbidity and mortality rounds and other neurosurgical and anesthesia meetings within the city.
