Obstetrics at Northwick Park

Two 6 month posts, starting August and February

Northwick Park is a busy obstetrics unit with approx 5500 deliveries/year, in a high risk population.

This post will provide exposure to all areas of obstetric care including practical, management experience, committee work, audit and research. The fellow will be involved in running a multidisciplinary obstetric simulator course, the national HDU midwifery course and the local mandatory midwifery training.

As well as the delivery suite itself, the successful candidate will be involved in antenatal anaesthetic clinic, maternal medicine clinic, fetal medicine clinic, endocrinology clinic and management of high risk deliveries and HDU care.

This unit has a long tradition of research, audit and publications. The post holder will be expected to participate in and initiate research and audit and see this through to presentation and publication. The research element of this post will entail some self directed work, sometimes to strict deadlines. There will flexibility and guidance from the department to support the fellows in their interests and research projects.

The post holder will assist with training in obstetric management for more junior team members, nursing staff as well as teach medical and paramedical staff outside the department.

The post holder will fully participate in the second on, senior trainee rota, covering main theatres/surgical HDU/labour ward
