6-12 months

Start date February or August

======================

Frimley Park Hospital, part of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, is a regional vascular centre offering emergency and elective vascular services to a population of 800,000. There are 6 vascular surgeons, a dedicated vascular theatre, and additional work is undertaken in the interventional radiology suite. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing is used in the preoperative assessment of high-risk vascular patients, as well as patients undergoing major colorectal surgery.

This Fellowship is aimed at senior trainees who are in possession of the FRCA (or equivalent) or CCT holders seeking specialised training in high risk anaesthesia for vascular surgery. However, post-primary candidates displaying aptitude and interest will be considered. The Fellow will gain the knowledge and skills required to perform preoperative assessment, optimisation, anaesthesia and post-operative care for high risk vascular patients as an independent practitioner under both general and regional anaesthesia, as open or endovascular procedures, in the elective and emergency setting. The Fellow will attain proficiency in the conduct and interpretation of cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Support will be given in developing a research project or audit pertaining to vascular anaesthesia or cardiopulmonary exercise testing in order to improve the service offered to patients.

The Fellow will take part in the trainee 1:8 on call rota, being on call for Obstetrics, the Intensive Care Unit or Theatres as required by the department. The trainees are supported by an anaesthetic consultant and an intensive care consultant on call from home.
