The post is suitable for applicants with a background in anaesthesia, wanting to gain specialty experience in adult cardiothoracic anaesthesia, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, trans-oesophageal echocardiography, cardiac catheter laboratories and cardiac intensive care. You will have duties in cardiac and thoracic theatres, cardiology and on the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The center is part of the General hospital and there will be an opportunity for you to work in general theatres as part of the training (to be negotiated after appointment).
The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre has facilities for 100 patient beds, performing an average 850 cardiac, 350 thoracic surgical and 2,500 cardiology procedures each year. We also have started vascular surgical cases on site in a newly built hybrid theatre. Facilities include a highly equipped 22 bed critical care unit, separate cardiology day ward. Essex CTC is one of the few centres in the UK undertaking minimally invasive mitral programme. There will be plenty of opportunity to develop TOE skills and become accredited.
