GADP fellowships are voluntary positions and are not salaried. However, a stipend is provided to support reasonable travel, accommodation, and living expenses during in-country placements. Applicants may also choose to seek additional funding through external grants, scholarships, or bursaries, depending on their individual circumstances and eligibility.

As an in-country fellow, you will have the chance to immerse yourself in the local healthcare landscape, providing hands-on training and support to Ethiopian anaesthesia trainees. This comprehensive experience includes a variety of teaching, management, leadership, quality improvement and research activities.
TEACHING & EDUCATION
Clinical training: provide practical training to local trainee physician anaesthetists in theatre, tailored to your experience and competencies.
Simulation training: lead and facilitate in situ and classroom simulation sessions.
Trainee program facilitation: facilitate the trainee teaching program, support examination preparation, and promote trainee well-being. Collaborate with local faculty and remote fellows on departmental research and governance events.
MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP
Peer mentorship: offer guidance and mentorship to local trainee physician anaesthetists.
Advocacy & campaigning: Work with the charity on issues related to global surgery and health equity.
Leadership opportunities: engage in broader management and leadership roles within the charity, such as fundraising activities and conference planning.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT & RESEARCH
Support & supervision: assist local trainees with their quality improvement and research projects, providing QI training, supervision, mentorship, training in data handling and presentation of results.
Data analysis: collect and analyse data to support partnership monitoring and evaluation activities.
These are challenging and rewarding roles that require sensitivity, commitment, and creativity. GADP fellowships are approved for Out of Programme Training (OOPT) by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
