Learning Outcomes:
Be familiar and competent in the intraoperative anaesthetic management of the liver transplant patient, including
a) Management of major haemodynamic and metabolic changes intraoperatively
b) Transfusion strategies and management of coagulation
c) Management of the sick liver patient
d) Invasive lines (including PAC, veno-venous bypass)
e) Intraoperative critical incidents management
f) Familiarity with various surgical techniques and manoeuvres during transplant anaesthesia
Be confident in the preoperative assessment of the liver transplant patients including assessment of overall perioperative risks, cardiovascular risk factors, optimisation of patient’s condition, prohibitive factors to listing of potential transplant patients and identification of potential intra-operative problems
Understand the principles of managing other Abdominal organ Transplants such as Kidney, Kidney-Pancreas, isolated small bowel/multi-visceral transplants.
Understanding and participating in clinical audit and research in Transplant anaesthesia.
Demonstrate Teaching/Simulation skills in Transplant Anaesthesia
4 days/week with 1:8 on call.
50% of the time allocated for Transplant and HPB with the rest of the time allocated as service commitment.
Teaching, Audit and Research encouraged.
