The perioperative medicine anesthesia fellowship at Austin Health offers a dynamic and comprehensive training experience for aspiring anaesthetists with an interest in perioperative medicine. Fellows dedicate 50% of their time to assessing complex patients in preoperative clinics, high-risk anaesthesia clinics, a unique inpatient review service and the opportunity to engage in combined complex perioperative medicine clinics.
Additionally, fellows contribute to the general anesthesia Fellow On-call roster, gaining invaluable experience in managing complex cases, supervising junior trainees and developing leadership skills under pressure. The fellowship provides structured support for fellows to work towards achieving the objectives outlined by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) in the Chapter of Perioperative Medicine.
There are a number of opportunities to engage with research and quality improvement projects as well as educational initiatives aimed at advancing knowledge and practice in perioperative care. Under the guidance of expert faculty members fellows engage in hands-on learning experiences that prepare them to excel in both perioperative and complex anaesthesia settings. Through mentorship, research opportunities, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the fellowship equips anaesthetists with the expertise and confidence to deliver exceptional patient care across a broad spectrum of clinical scenarios.
Pay rate is as per the most recent EBA/Award, with an average of 45hrs per week including Clinical Support Time.
